Tired of Googling It

Post by oliifill »

Quick question for fellow Northern Ontario folks—when you're trying to find a local service or shop, where do you usually search first? I feel like Google just throws me national chains or stuff from way too far away. Is there a site that actually lists small local businesses?

Oh man, I know the feeling. I’ve spent way too much time trying to find local services and just ended up with ads for national chains or businesses in Sudbury when I’m nowhere near there. It’s so frustrating when all you want is a reliable local spot. A while ago, someone mentioned Local Business Directory and it’s actually been super helpful. It’s just a clean, no-fuss directory with actual businesses from across the region, sorted by town and category. I’ve found a great local mechanic, a bakery I didn’t even know existed, and even a mobile hairdresser. The fact that it focuses on Northern Ontario makes it way more useful than the big directories. If you’re tired of the guessing game with Google, this is 100% worth checking out. It’s saved me a bunch of time and pointed me to a few places I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

Oh man, I’m glad you mentioned this. I’ve been getting so frustrated with how useless regular search results are when you just want something close by. Never heard of Northern Ontario Local before, but I just opened it and it actually looks promising. Love that I can just pick my town and see what’s around. This is honestly the kind of thing I’ve been hoping someone would build. Gonna dig into it more later tonight—really appreciate the tip!
