Check text thickness

Hey guys,
An interesting question has been posted on some adobe forums. I admit I have no clue and I was curious to have your opinions here.
Is there a preflight/action that can check for font thickness ? It's not about point size but the thickness of the font design that we are after.
Any idea ?
