Does speeding really save time?

Post by wick94566 »

I’ve always wondered if speeding actually saves that much time or if it’s just something people do out of habit. The other day, I was late for work and decided to push the speed limit a little. I was going maybe 10-15 mph over, thinking I’d make up for lost time. But then I hit a few red lights, got stuck behind slower cars, and honestly didn’t feel like I got there much faster than usual. It made me think—does speeding even make a real difference? I mean, yeah, if you’re on a long highway trip, maybe, but in a city with traffic and signals, is it really worth the risk?

That’s a great question! A lot of people assume speeding will get them to their destination much faster, but in reality, the time saved is usually minimal—especially in city driving where you have to deal with stoplights, congestion, and other unpredictable factors. I read that on shorter trips, the time saved by speeding is often just a couple of minutes at best. And the risk of getting pulled over or causing an accident really outweighs those few minutes.
If you ever do get a speeding ticket, though, it’s good to know your options. You can always check with a traffic law attorney near you to see if there’s a way to fight or reduce the ticket. A friend of mine once got a ticket for speeding on the highway, and after talking to an attorney, he was able to get it reduced so it didn’t impact his insurance as much. So yeah, sometimes it’s better to just stick to the limit and avoid the hassle!

It’s funny, I was just talking to a coworker about this the other day! He always speeds, saying he “saves time,” but when we leave work at the same time, we usually arrive at our destinations only a minute or two apart. I get that people feel like they’re going faster and being more efficient, but when you factor in traffic, stoplights, and potential delays, it doesn’t always make a big difference. I’d rather just drive at a normal pace and not stress about getting pulled over or wasting gas by constantly accelerating and braking.
