PowerSwitch 10 -> Assamble Jobs -> Bottleneck?

Post by sascha.koerber »

Hello community,

were using PowerSwitch 10 with some existing Workflows that have been working since Switch 8. The Flows weren't changed but somehow i am noticing serious performance issues since whe updated PowerSwitch from version 9 to 10.

One thing i noticed is that in a lot of Flows the "bottleneck" seems to be the "Assemble Job" function, where files keep stacking up in the folder before the "Assemble Job" action. In most flows the "Assemble Job" action simply combines two PDF files, that where separated by the "Dismantle Job" action somewhere earlier in the flow. Its like these files make their way throught the whole flow in some seconds and then keep gathering in the folder right before the "Assemble Job" action and it sometimes takes the action like two minutes to assemble two files, which are there to proceed.

I'm almost sure, that i did not see this behaviour in PowerSwitch 9 with the exact same flows. But don't pin me down to that...

What might i be doing wrong? Where can i maybe check, what the action is "waiting for"? I know the action has rather mighty options to configure or it maybe has changed in functionality between v9 and v10?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I have noticed this also and have had to develop custom assemblers in certain cases. Post more info about your specific flow and maybe I can determine why it's so slow.

When you want to split a job and then combine it again later in the flow, it is better to use "Ungroup job" instead of "Job dismantler" and to use "Ungrouped job" as the "Scheme"of "Assemble job".

@dkelly:

Great, i'm not the only person noticing that. I've got a sample flow that behaves the way i described and i can't find the cause. I'm nearly sure, this exact flow worked a lot faster with assembling the job before we switched to PowerSwitch 10. Maybe you can have a look at the "assemble job"-action in this flow, if you find a minute to do so.

I've got similar flows which suffer the same problem. Sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes per job-assembly. Hopefully i didn't mess it up myself. But i did not change a thing in the flow, besides updating to PowerSwitch 10.

@freddyp:

I'm using it the way you described, where possible. I just got confused with the english names of the actions in Switch, because we use the german version here. Sorry! :-)
